Project brief

The Old School Court is a Grade II listed building, built in 1848, which formerly was utilised as a school. The building has been restored and converted to form 28 self-contained flats. As pert of an ongoing maintenance and upgrade programme, Metropolitan Thames Valley instructed Re-Gen UK to carry out the restoration, upgrade and improvement works. The building was fully occupied during the project. The property is located at N17, London.

The first phase of works consisted of sympathetic roof repairs, matching the old over size slate tiles with salvaged slates procured from Wales, moulded iron guttering to suit the existing. We also carried out window repairs and brick repairs on the external elevations. We completed this work under a visiting English Heritage Inspector to ensure that the correct materials were being used and applied as we worked.

The first phase also consisted of some flats and the main communal areas getting fully refurbished. All materials used were sympathetic to the original décor as we carried out replacement windows, plaster repairs, renewed heating systems to look like the originals and renewed the flooring and carried out decorations using specialist paints.

Sown to our due diligence on the first phase, we were awarded the second phase of work which consisted of forming a new lightwell, fitting a new drainage system and fitting a new ventilation system to the basement of existing properties. When we opened the lightwell we had extensive repairs to existing brickwork which had by now eroded, we had to remove and replace all affected areas again under the watchful brief of English Heritage.

Re-Gen UK closely worked with MTVH and English Heritage throughout the works to this Grade II Listed building ensuring that everyone can inspect our works at all times. Due to this working relationship, we are considered for further heritage works with MTVH.
